ISK vs Rift Valley Academy (FINAL)

ISK vs Rift Valley Academy (FINAL)
29 – 45
I felt as a team, that this was by far the worst game that we played all season, even after doing so well against RVA the last time, but I felt that this was my personal best game all season. This was not a home game and that intimidated me a lot, but I felt prepared, but I guess that the rest of my team wasn’t. as a team, there were a lot of things going wrong and we had many lapses in our defense, and I think that I just got mad, because we were so close to defeating them the last time and now for it to look like we as a team have never played basketball before, I just got angry. I think it was my anger that propelled me to play like a proper ISK LION BEAST, and I think that this was a personal best game for me. It was my highest scoring game, even though I twisted my already hurt ankle, I feel I played my heart out.

ISK vs Rift Valley Academy.

ISK vs Rift Valley Academy.
43 – 45
This was a home game and it was the first game we lost all season. It was also the team we lost to in the final at the tournament in Rosslyn. It was tight and intense all the way through and I think I played well here and so did the whole team. We were all getting to our spots on time and we played an amazing defense, but RVA was still able to find weakness and we were making stupid mistakes and the defeated us by just a basket. Also a lot of our player were injured, including Bernice and Berci ( co- captain) and I.  I was sad that we didn’t win, but I felt that we put up a great fight, every single member of the team, so I was happy about this.

Mara marathon

Mara marathon
After running the standard chartered marathon, I felt like I could do anything, so I decided to run the MasaiMara Marathon in November. For this marathon, they did not have a ten kilometer race, but had I five kilometer race, so I wasn’t sure I  wanted to participate, but I decided to participate because it was a different terrain and it would be good practice. For this marathon, I trained a lot more in Karura forest because the race holders announced that the ground there wasn’t tarmac, so it would be helpful to run on non-tarmac ground.

At the beginning I used the same techniques I used in the standard chartered Marathon, to run at my own pace. The ground we were running on was very uneven and it was hard to keep my balance I toppled over twice, but in the end I found my tempo and began to run properly. I was really hot and there were no water stations and I think that this was a big motivation for me because I just wanted to reach the end and get some WATER. It was challenging in a different way to the standard chartered marathon because it was a different terrain and it was very hot, unlike in the standard chartered marathon, where it was cool and easy to run. It was also a nice marathon because a person was literally running beside the animals, like in the beginning of my race there were impales grazing beside the track and they all ran away when the race started.

The day of the marathon finally arrived, on the 19th of November. We had spent the whole of Friday driving down to the Mara and setting up camp there. I went to bed pretty early the night before, but I was still tired in the morning when I woke up. We went to the race site and It was already hot, the race was supposed to begin at 10 am, but it was badly organized and it ended up starting at 12, when the sun was at full maximum capacity. That was the one thing I didn’t like about the event was the fact that it was badly organized and in the beginning it was really funny to watch the organizers try to get the start sign to face the right direction and originally when the race started everybody was facing the wrong way and it had to be turned around.

ISK vs Peponi

ISK vs Peponi

In this game we had major lapses as this team was faster than us, which meant that we had to get organized faster and make quicker passes while still staying composed.

ISK vs Rosslyn.

ISK vs Rosslyn.
35 – 23
This is the third time we are meeting this team ( 1srt game, tournament and now). In the beginning of this game, we were not playing well at all and we were missing passes and making many mistakes as a team and also individually. After half time, we improved a lot and I found that not only did the team improve, I improved to, because I was getting to my spot faster and making better decisions about shooting and passing.

Liesure club- September

In septmeber, in leisure club, ultimate Frisbee was continued and we also did some Frisbee golf which was nice. It was nice and good fun because it was different to all other sports that I had tried before and was a good combination and a new experience. The goal was to get the Frisbee through the whole in the least number of shots and it was challenging and again like normal Frisbee, it required a good amount of focus to get the Frisbee to fly the right direction and the distance you want it to fly.
Badminton was also started in leisure club and I really enjoyed participating in this when I could. Badminton is a fun sport and it doesn’t require much physical strength, but it also uses other aspects of the body. A person can be made to stretch in many directions to hit the ball and it is fun. It may not feel like much at the time, but while hitting the ball, you are stretching many muscles and I can say that I did feel it the next day. Badminton helped me get into shape.

Leisure club- August

When I can go to leisure club, I go, because I find that it calms me down and since this was the first month back from school and it helped me get back into shape. I think doing sports is very important for a person as it helps them balance out the mental aspects of their lives. In August, in leisure club, we played Frisbee and it was fun and it gave me a chance to bond with my friends, seeing as many of my friends joined the leisure club and it made me more relaxed and able to push on with the day. I also think that in leisure club, increases my concentration because in games like ultimate Frisbee, you need focus and concentration to catch the Frisbee and I feel this helped me increase my overall concentration on the days when I had leisure club. Increased concentration helped with my focus in the afternoon classes.
In conclusion in august, during ultimate Frisbee, on the Tuesdays that I could go, my concentration seemed to be improved because of the focus required for ultimate Frisbee and it gave my a chance to bond with my friends.

Artsco - mural painting in school

on the 24th of September 2011, i went mural painting in school. it was actually more fun than i had expected. when i got there we had to bring all the materials from the art room, including paint and buckets and plastic covers for the ground and then i helped tape the lines of the mural so that the paint doesn't spill over and mix with the other shades of paint, i taped 3 different murals and i discovered it is very hard to tape in a circle. i think that the mural painting helped me realize that everybody has different talents because some of the murals been painted in school are amazing and some people really excel at the talents. also people have different views on different types of art, like if 2 of the murals are compared, they are both works of art,but both very different in the views of the artist. i think murals are an excellent way to brighten up a place and a good way to express one character and emotion and it can also show what king of person a person is in my opinion.

So, in conclusion, i liked the mural painting on Saturday in school and it showed hoe murals and creativity can transform a place like school and make it seem brighter. i also realized that everybody has different talents and i felt that painting made me more calm and relaxed.

here is a link to a video on you - tube posted by an urban artist kinsey, who does mural. i think he describes it perfectly, how art can provoke different thought for people and how it is inspiring. . . mammoth street mural

Hope House Baby Home

i paid a visit to the home on 12th October 2011, to see what it was like and so see what i would have to be doing, i was told i would get to start on the 29th of October 2011. i played with the babies and the were just so cute and innocent, and it made me wonder, who would leave such innocent little children, some who can barely open their eyes to die or to be abandoned.

Tournament at Rosslyn.

Tournament at Rosslyn.
In this tournament, we got to play all the teams we were seeing later and I think that put all teams on an equal playing field because we all got to see what the other teams can do, but this also put us at a disadvantage because the other teams got to see what we could do. In first half of the tournament went well and we won all the game in our pool and I got to be starting jumper in the Rosslyn game. After lunch we played Rosslyn outside and the team had a malfunction and we started playing badly and at one point the game was tied. I felt as if I was playing a little sluggishly and it was annoying me. We all knew that we could play like this in the finals, otherwise the only other undefeated team would kill us. They almost killed us and we were doing mnay things wrong, in offence and in defense. In the end we lost to the RVA (A) team and it showed us as a team how much more we would need to focus in practice and how much more practice we needed if we were to come close to defeating them the next time we see them.

Standard Chartered Marathon

Standard Chartered Marathon

This year I decided that I would like to run the ten kilometers of the standard chartered marathon which occurs every year in Kenya. In previous year I have only run the kids fun run, but this year I decided on the ten kilometers.

It was my dad who inspired me because he ran the New York Marathon the previous year. I had to start preparation early, and I started training in august, every Sunday and Wednesday I would run 8 kilometers. On Wednesday I would run inside my estate, but on Sundays I would run in Karura forest because I find it peaceful to run there.
The day finally came on Sunday 30th October 2011. I woke up very early in the morning and we ended up being just on time, arriving at the start at 8:00 am. The 10Km was supposed to start at 8:10 am. It was very thrilling to be there and there were very many people, I think the estimated number was that ten thousand people ran the marathon. In the begging, after the start gun went off, I found it very difficult to run because of all the people, but by the time we were reaching the first “hill”, the crowd had begun to thin out. Before my dad went to his event, he gave me and my brother good advice, he told us to run it at our own tempo and not to be too anxious to get started because on previous years people have gotten trampled at the beginning.
I found this marathon to be very challenging and it took a lot more stamina and mental strength than I expected because I thought it would be easy because I have seen my brother do it time and time again. At around 9 Km I was ready to give up, but then I saw the 1 Km left sign and I decide to push myself until I got there and at the finish I felt a lot better about myself, emotionally and physically. I felt better emotionally because I had overcome a major obstacle and the fact that I didn’t give up gave me a lot more confidence. Also made me feel better physically because me body had over come something.

ISK vs Rosslyn

ISK vs ROSSLYN
31 – 8
This is our first game and all the hard work and training that we have put in since the beginning of the year have come all down to this. In the beginning I was nervous, out as a team we set into a good rhythm even though we made many mistakes.
