The FREETHROWATHON
Today is 28th January 2012 and I shot a thousand free throws and made over them. I was doing this with my basketball team. It was in support of a charity called Africa’s promise children. It is a charity that support children in sporting, located in Kawangare. We will buy shoes for them and create a basketball workshop for them in school. We will also deliver for them shoes that we got from when the team went to Paris. I think that today was both a mental and physical challenge because it may not seem hard, but it took more than eight hours to finish. We were shooting free-throws from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. After a while, your body gets tired and in the last one hundred when my arms had become spaghetti, you had to physically push your body, it was also mentally exhausting because you have to repeat the same thing over and over again, and if your body is tired, your mind becomes tired to. From this experience I learned to repeat a pattern over and over again and also I got to know my team members better, because we were all doing it together and encouraging each other. I especially felt that I got to know my partner better because we were helping each other out by re-bounding for each other and keeping each other’s spirits up. If I could re-do this I would plan my time better because I had to hurry in the end. This activity also helped me perfect my free throw technique, which was helpful for the rest of the season. In this activity I learnt about myself that I can be very determined , especially to complete a challenge. i was able to raise ten thousand shillingsSunday, 29 January 2012

Christmas Cupcakes
On the 24th of December, I helped on my dad’s
farm to give out over 800 cupcakes. When we arrived in the morning, me and my
sister had to separate 800 packet of 6 cupcakes each. We decided to sort them
into bags of 100 packets. This took quite a bit of time, we were sorting from
10-11 o’clock. We had to sort fast as they had to be given out before 12:00. It was hard work and we had to drag the heavy
sacks of cupcakes to the car, where we went with the driver to distribute them.
It was fun giving them out and the workers looked very happy when we were
giving them out. They were like happy children and it made me feel good because
I knew I had done something to help them and their families to have a good
Christmas.
I found myself very successful as I was able to complete the
activity. I did this together with my sister, she catalogued the cupcakes and
who got a packet. We encountered difficulties as we had to do it in a short
time frame as the person who was delivering the cupcakes from the factory was
late. It also made me more modest because it made me realize how much a little
thing could affect a person life greatly.
I found it a fun activity because even though we faced
challenges we were able to complete and
hand out all the cupcakes and it was fun to see all the people happy. . It made
me feel like there is a lot more that I could to for people, and how when we do
small things together that it could add up and change many people lives.
